The process begins when an African Union member state submits an official Letter of Intent to the PAESA Secretariat. This document signifies the national government's commitment to exploring EPR framework adoption and circular economy transition.
PAESA dispatches a technical team to assess the nation's existing waste management infrastructure, recycling capabilities, and legislative landscape. This gap analysis helps tailor the EPR implementation plan to the country's specific economic and regulatory context.
PAESA legal experts work alongside the national government to align local waste management laws with the PAESA Continental Framework. This step harmonises EPR legislation, making it enforceable and consistent with cross-border standards.
Once legislation is aligned, the member state officially ratifies the PAESA treaty. The country is then onboarded into the network, gaining immediate access to cross-border infrastructure, funding mechanisms, and the PAESA data tracking dashboards.
